Dear all,

Thank you for writing me about the Southern California wildfires.  I truly appreciate hearing the thoughts and opinions of my fellow Californians.

Once again, our state, local and federal firefighters have shown us that they are the bravest, the toughest and the most experienced in the world.  Their heroism and dedication to our great state make me truly proud to be a Californian.

We have a lot of difficult work ahead.  Homes, churches, businesses and entire communities must be rebuilt.  My office is working relentlessly with federal, state and local government to assist in the rebuilding process.  We have established local assistance centers and launched www.rebuildyourlife.ca.gov as a one-stop resource for Californians who are seeking information about what they need to do to recover from a disaster.  I also invite everyone to visit the California Volunteers website at www.californiavolunteers.org, to learn how you can help.

As we move from fire suppression to rebuilding our homes and communities, we will hone our response to ensure that it is not just adequate, but outstanding.  While the state did a great job in quickly responding to the fires, and the cooperation between all levels of government was truly impressive, our work isn't over yet.  We need to make sure we are even better prepared for the future.  That is why I have called on the Blue Ribbon Task Force to assess the next steps to take at federal, state and local levels of government to prevent and fight future fires.

We will always work to improve our response because the people of California deserve and demand the best, and we will not rest until everyone is safe and every person's life is back to normal.  I am committed to the best possible response to this tragedy - I don't believe anything else would be worthy of our great state.

Sincerely,

Arnold Schwarzenegger
